ABOUT HEARING LOSS

Hearing loss that occurs gradually as you age (presbycusis) is common. According to the National Institutes of Health, an estimated one-third of people in the United States between the ages of 65 and 75 and close to one-half of those older than 75 have some degree of hearing loss.

Doctors believe that heredity and chronic exposure to loud noises are the main factors that contribute to hearing loss over time. Other factors, such as earwax blockage, can prevent your ears from conducting sounds as well as they should.

You can't reverse hearing loss. However, you don't have to live in a world of muted, less distinct sounds. We can help you take steps to improve what you hear.

Take this quick test and check your ability to hear properly:

Do people seem to mumble or speak in a softer voice than they used to?

Do you feel tired or irritable after a long conversation?

Do you sometimes miss key words in a sentence, or frequently need to ask people to repeat themselves?

When you are in a group or in a crowded restaurant, is it difficult for you to follow the conversation?

When you are together with other people, does background noise bother you?

Do you often need to turn up the volume on your TV or radio?

Do you find it difficult to hear the doorbell or the telephone ring?

Is carrying on a telephone conversation difficult?

Do you find it difficult to pinpoint where an object is (e.g. an alarm clock or a telephone) from the noise it makes?

Has someone close to you mentioned that you might have a problem with your hearing?

How did you do? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, we encourage you to make an appointment for a complimentary hearing evaluation with us today.

“For years I had noticed a hearing loss. After many complaints from friends and family, I made an appointment with New Wave Hearing. The results have been amazing. The hearing aids are top notch, as is the New Wave staff. I am a very satisfied customer.”   Rick Brown
